New Viruses
Everyday
It may be difficult to believe but new computer viruses are created on a daily
basis and they seek to wreck havoc in computer systems everywhere. It is estimated that there are almost
10.000 new viruses each year.
For this reason, it is important that one keeps
vigilant against these viruses by installing anti-virus programs and
making sure that they are updated on a regular basis. It also helps to be aware of the virus threats that are out
there and this is the point of this article.
Because new viruses are created on a daily
basis, it is virtually impossible to know them all. There are however a few that are common and that are likely to
pop up in your computer at some point. These include;
Virus: Trojan.Lodear
This virus is a Trojan horse that infects the
computer and tries to download remote files. It usually causes the system to become unstable by injecting a .dll
file into the system.
Virus: Backdoor.Zagaban
This virus is also a Trojan horse that is likely
to degrade network performance in that computer. It facilitates the use of the affected computer as a covert
proxy.
Virus: W32? Netsky-P
This virus is spreading mostly through emails.
It is a mass mailing worm that will spread by sending itself as emails to all addresses that may be found on files
on the drives.
Virus: W32/Mytob-GH and
W32/Mytob-EX
Both these viruses are backdoor Trojan viruses
that spread through mass emailing. They will usually come with a subject that is randomly chosen like for instance
‘Email Account Suspension’ or ‘Member’s Support’. The W32/Mytob-EX provides a backdoor server through which anyone
can access and control the computer by making use of IRC channels. Other similar viruses are the W32/Mytob –AS, Mytob-BE, Mytob-C
and Mytob-ER. These are variations of the same family of mass emailing worms that possess a backdoor
functionality.
